21st Century Skills
You're getting an education so that you'll be ready for your future life, i.e. to make you able to create, and contribute to, the kind of society you want. That means one of the school's responsibilities is to give you the opportunity to develop the so-called "21st century skills", which include (but are not limited to):

During your English classes you will be offered, as frequently as possible, the chance to use, and develop, the aforementioned skills.
You're also expected to use them as often as you'll consider it relevant!
